 Traveling

The Australian Government has created a fact sheet for people who have recently been in China or who have been in close contact with a confirmed case of coronavirus which may be of use: https://www.health.gov.au/sites/default/files/documents/2020/02/novel-coronavirus-2019-ncov-what-you-need-to-know_0.pdf

 In summary:

  • Face masks are not recommended for use in the general community. A face mask will not protect you against becoming infected but the use of a face masks can help to prevent transmission of disease from infected patients to others. For this reason WA Health will not be handing out masks to the general community.
  • As with most viruses, the best way to prevent the spread is  general cleaning of surfaces; good hand hygiene; appropriate cough etiquette; and, avoiding contact with others (if you or they are ill).
  • Currently in Australia, people most at risk of contracting the virus are those who have been in mainland China recently, or have been in close contact with someone who is a confirmed case of coronavirus.
  • There have been no confirmed cases of coronavirus reported from WA.
  • If anyone has specific queries they can call the WA coronavirus Hotline on 1800 300 243 for further advice.
