WA SEXUAL HEALTH WEEK

Copy of FEBRUARY 13 20

There's a common misconception that sexual health is just about safe sex, contraception and avoiding HIV, sexually transmissible infections and unintended pregnancies. There is so much more to sexual health than just that.

Sexual health is about taking responsibility for your health and the health of your partner/s. This includes physical health and safety, mental and emotional health, communication and relationships and so much more. Taking care of your sexual health might mean preventing unplanned pregnancy and STIs, but it's also about open communication with your sexual partners. It's talking how you want to protect yourselves, your limits and boundaries, what you are willing to do or not do. It's about respect for yourself, your body and that of your partners; and them having the same respect in turn.

A healthy sexual life is about being informed and confident in the decisions you make. It is about taking proactive steps to take care of yourself and your health. It is being able to accept differences and having a healthy understanding of sexuality and relationships. Sexual health is about you and your partner/s feeling safe and being safe; physically, emotionally and mentally. Sexual health is about you and your partner/s feeling respected and bring respect; where there is a freedom for sexual expression. Sexual health about you and your partner/s experiencing pleasure, connection and intimacy.

WA Sexual Health Week 2020 is about celebrating and promoting sexual health in its entirety. It is about finding ways to have a healthy sexual life where you experience feeling safe, respected and, above all, pleasure. It runs from 13 - 20 February this year with fun events and opportunities to learn more about sexual health.

Our Mission

To minimise the impact and further transmission of HIV, other blood borne viruses and sexually transmissible infections. To reduce social, legal and policy barriers which prevent access to health information and effective support and prevention services.

WA AIDS Council would like to acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the Traditional Custodians of this country throughout Australia, and their strength, resilience and connection to land and community. In particular, the WA AIDS Council would like to acknowledge the Wadjuk people of the Noongar Nation as the traditional custodians of the land in which our office is located.
